Doctors hope that Russia will catch up with the U.S. in terms of organ transplantations

The draft law on Donation of organs, brought by the Ministry of Healthcare to the government will help Russia move closer to the figures of European countries in the field oftransplantation, but in order to start that work in 2015, a lot of subordinate acts and regulations are to be set, in particular instructions for detection of brain death of the child, according to experts, interviewed by RIA Novosti.

The law on Donation of organs, providing accounting of inter vivos expression of the relation of the citizens on their post-mortem organ donation, as well as involving the establishment of registers of donors and recipients, may come into force from July 2015. With the adoption of the law, the Ministry expects to significantly improve performance oforgan transplantations. In Russia about 1300 transplantations are carried out annually, which is 3.5 operations per million population. In Europe, this is between 40 and 65operations.
