Federal Research Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs named after academician V.I. Shumakov is the largest scientific and practical institution that conducts basic and applied research in the field of transplantation and artificial organs.

The priority areas of research of the Center are studying the biological and clinical aspects of organ, tissue and cell transplantation and developing the ways to prolong graft function in the recipient.

The problem of creating artificial organs is being successfully solved. The first ever domestic artificial left ventricle of heart has been designed and implanted to a human.

Among the priority directions of activities of the Centre is the development of replacement and regenerative medicine: creating of bioartificial organs - liver, pancreas, cartilage.
